Which text-to-image model produces the best images?

Often, the big language models like ChatGPT, Gemini or Grok are in the spotlight when it comes to comparing their performances. But what about the text-to-image models? These platforms often remain in the shadows, even though their results can be just as spectacular. Curious Refuge has taken on this challenge and the results are truly impressive. This test directly compares the different styles of text-to-image models such as Midjourney, Google’s Image FX, Flux 1.1 and Runway’s Frames.

The Curious Refuge review

The models considered in this test are Midjourney, Google’s Image FX, Flux 1.1 and Runway’s Frames. These models were tested against identical prompts to see which one produced the best images.

Midjourney

Midjourney is known for artistic and often surreal compositions. It is an excellent choice for creative projects where artistic expression is the main focus. Midjourney images are characterized by their attention to detail and ability to depict complex scenes.

Image FX by Google

Image FX from Google uses the latest advances in image processing technology and is particularly good at creating realistic images. It is ideal for applications where accuracy and realism are required, such as advertising or product design.

Flux 1.1

Flux 1.1 is another powerful model, known for its versatility. It can create both realistic and abstract images and offers a wide range of style options, making it a popular choice for designers who value flexibility.

Frames from Runway

Frames by Runway is a model that stands out for its ease of use and ability to quickly deliver high-quality results. It is particularly popular with beginners who want to quickly create impressive images without having to dig deep into the technical details.

Conclusion

So which model is best? Curious Refuge has the following answer:

Our verdict? Midjourney and Image FX are the clear winners for realism and cinematic quality. Midjourney shines with stylized shots, while Image FX (seriously underrated!) delivers movie-quality results with incredible prompt accuracy. Frames by Runway takes third place – great realism but needed more iterations to nail the prompts. Flux did well but couldn’t quite capture that cinematic feel.

It is particularly impressive that Midjourney V6.1 has been available since July 31, 2024, and has been recognized as a milestone for over half a year in the current period. This demonstrates the longevity and influence that this model has in the fast-paced world of AI technology.
