Runway’s Gen:48 competition challenges creative minds from around the world to demonstrate their cinematic skills with AI tools. The aim is to produce and submit a short film using AI tools within a tight time frame of just 48 hours. More than 1,000 participants did this this year, proving that creativity with AI tools can also emerge under time pressure. The competition has now reached its exciting finale and the winners have been announced.
Both the diversity and the quality of the submissions impressively demonstrate the range and potential that filmmakers can achieve with AI tools. From all the entries, the Runway jury selected 40 films that stood out for their vision, creativity and cinematic excellence.
In the end, seven short films won. The coveted Grand Prix for the best film of the competition, the prize for Best Art Direction and the prize for Best Craft were awarded by the runway jury. The other winners were chosen on the basis of a free online vote. The films with the most votes won.
To give you an impression of the greatness of the contributions, we present a few works here.

Personally, we liked the winners in the People’s choice category best. Be an Elephant by Gurkan Atakan is a truly impressive work – both in terms of storytelling and craftsmanship.
